Vanilla Chai Spiced Oatmeal

A couple of weeks ago when I went for a run with my mom and sister, we passed by Fuel+ located in the Canary District, a healthy food bar that I had never tried before! So of course we had to stop by for a post--run pick me up. Their menu is filled with nutrient-filled smoothies and smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices, fresh salads and wraps, fuel balls, house-made coffee, and more. After browsing through their long menu, my sister and I decided to order the vanilla chai smoothie and a peanut butter chocolate chip fuel ball. Both were delicious, but I was especially impressed by their vanilla chai smoothie. It was SO good that I couldn't wait to experiment with this flavour at home.

That week I decided to incorporate vanilla chai spicing into my oatmeal, and it was definitely a success. The classic chai spices I included were cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and black pepper. I enhanced the chai flavour further by brewing chai tea and adding it into the oatmeal to create a perfectly infused chai breakfast bowl. So YUM. Now for the recipe...

Ingredients (serves 3)

1 1/2 cup oats

1 1/2 ripe banana (mashed)

1 cup tigernut milk (sub for any type of milk)

1 cup brewed chai tea

1 tbsp maple syrup

1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ginger

1/2 tsp allspice

1/2 tsp nutmeg

Pinch of salt

Pinch of black pepper


1. Combine the oats, mashed banana, tigernut milk, and brewed chai tea. Mix well.

2. Pour the mixture onto a pan over your stove and stir for 5-7 minutes on low-medium heat until reaching your desired thick oatmeal-like consistency.

3. Once your oats look almost ready to eat, add in the maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Stir for 1-2 minutes until well-combined.

4. Add your oatmeal into a bowl, add toppings of your choice, and eat!
